Office Talk

I am not sure what has gotten into me as of late, but I have a huge sense of urgency to update and improve the office. I am re-evaluating all of our processes and procedures trying to eliminate redundancy and be more efficient. I think it almost stems from a fear of getting left behind. I am alway spreading about businesses that were once thriving and are now after-thoughts (Kodak, Blackberry, etc.). With the way consumer buying habits are changing and the up and coming millennial generation slowly becoming a much larger portion of our consumer demographics, we need to stay up to date and cutting edge. I intend to be quite relevant in the years to come!

Myopia Management

I had another good week of educating the masses in regards to myopia and its negative consequences. The clinical pearl I will share with you is in regards to axial length. I have a staff member that is roughly a -9.50 OU and my wife is a -6.25 OU. They both have axial lengths of 26mm. Well I had a 12 year old patient come in this past week and their Rx went from -1.50 OU to -2.50 OU. Their axial length was, you guessed it, 26.82mm! You cannot manage myopia without knowing the length of the eye. We are going to initiate treatment for the 12 yo and time will tell where they progress to, but had I merely looked at Rx, I may not have had the same sense of urgency.
