Office Talk: Staff Management & Scleral Update - E30
Sticking with the staff management theme, I have been reminded that we run businesses and our businesses need to be independent of any one staff member. I have a staff member trying to balance a brand new daughter and her role at the office. It is a very common occurrence at my office and I wholeheartedly believe one's family should come first. That being said, it can put a lot of strain on the office to have constant turnover and still deliver high quality patient care. So:
- Hire the best talent possible and watch them raise the standards at your office
- Train them to do as much as they can do for as long as they can, you will see new opportunities for future staff members when you delegate and let staff members flourish
- Cross train in such a way that every task has a back-up in case the lead person leaves!
Moving on, I have another scleral lens fitting for next week scheduled. We have contacted the patient's insurance and figured out the co-pays and out of pocket expenses. I know exactly what the fitting, dispense, and first follow-up will entail. The patient handouts and such have been prepared and all that awaits is the troubleshooting to get a fit and regime that works for the patient. I think this is a testament to my office as a whole dedicating themselves to scleral lenses. I will keep you updated on the outcome and patient journey.
