Office Talk: Sclerals & OCT - E27
Sclerals
We had a few dispensing appointments this week. Both were in their late 20’s, early 30’s. Both struggled slightly. The biggest thing I can say from this experience is that motivation to wear them drives the success. The 28 year old female with dry eyes experiences a huge benefit when wearing them. She came back more than once to get help. The 36 year old male who sees relatively well with glasses, was ready to call it after 20 minutes.
Moral of the story: you need to be a cheerleader, set expectations, and help walk them down the path of success. We will see in a few weeks how good of a guide we were!
OCT
We had a few opportunities to use the OCT for evaluating the macula and to do a glaucoma evaluation. It has been fun to show the staff the medical aspects of optometry and incorporate them into the process. By letting them run the test and explaining what it means, I have seen more engagement and buy in to the new things I am implementing. Find ways to give your staff ownership and see their productivity and engagement increase!
I will keep you updated next week on the pulse of the office, stay tuned.
