Office Talk: Practice Hiring & Education - E31
We are hiring at my office. It has been nice to be hiring from a position of strength rather than need currently. There have been times when someone puts in their 2 weeks and I have to fill a spot on the fly. That is hard and not fair to the current staff, as they always have to do more work and can burn themselves out making the problem even worse.
We interviewed 3 candidates and I believe 2 of them will get second interviews. One actually is working at another eye care office, and that is new for me as I have never hired anyone from the business. I feel they have bad habits and do not mesh with my office principles. I am hoping she is an exception. Time will tell.
We had our monthly office meeting and I have continued my push to educate my staff. We are having quizzes before the meeting to see what they are retaining and who is potentially going to be promotable in the future. I have spoken with each member and tried to give them incentives to grow into a “leader” in their respective areas. Try it, and you will see some people rise up, while some sabotage themselves before even starting. As their own insecurities come out with even the thought of being in charge of anything.
