Office Talk: Hiring Updates, Improving Office Efficiency, and the Power of Collaboration - E32
We had our second interview with a potential hire. The second interview is a skills assessment in which we try to present a ton of information and see how they handle the “stress” as well as learn new information. She did awesome. In these scenarios I am the patient and my office manager demonstrates the skills and the interviewee was very open to learning and did not seem flustered. Needless to say, we offered her a position! I am hoping she takes it and works at the office for years to come!
I am currently tweaking my office hours in an effort to schedule as efficiently as possible. We are going to be open 9-7pm Mondays and Tuesdays, 9-5 on Wednesdays, 9-3 on Thursdays, and 9-12 on Fridays. By front loading my schedule, we get my staff to buy in to 2 later evenings and they get out early on Thursdays and Fridays. My payroll is less because we are open fewer hours and patients will be corralled together making our schedule full and limiting gaps. Too much availability actually works against an efficiently run office.
Lastly, the power of collaboration has been in full effect since this pandemic started. I am on a group text with a couple of my ICO colleagues and being able to share ideas has helped me keep my office at the cutting edge. I recommend all of you have 2 to 3 other eye care doctors you bounce ideas off of and see what has been working for them. As a result, I am bringing Precision1 daily lenses into my office as they have been working for a few of my friends. We shall see if they work for me!
