Office Talk: Be My Valentine - E33
A few weeks ago was Valentine's day and given the make-up of my office (6 staff members, all female, aged 23-30), I saw this as an opportunity to connect with them and show that I appreciate all they do. As a result, I went to the store the Thursday before Valentine’s day, bought a dozen roses, and 6 boxes of chocolates. I placed a rose on each staff member's desk and a box of chocolates. They were all pretty excited when they came in and during the morning huddle I jokingly asked them all to be my valentine. Obviously we are a small office and this was all in good fun, but the gesture had impact nonetheless.
Any team you are on has to be united and have a common goal. Given the circumstances, it has been hard for us to bond outside of the office and this was an easy way for us all to be on the same page. They knew I cared enough to make the effort, but more than that , they all were able to talk about a common thing that day. It allowed them to discuss their own plans and connect outside of the office.
Never doubt the positive impact of small gestures that can unite an office!
