Cold Start: Choosing A Good EHR - E17
So you want to start an office? It will be worth all the effort, but you need to focus on what matters and not get lost in all the noise that is going to surround you. For example, when I started, I was the only person on my team with any optical knowledge and I opened up immediately after graduating from ICO. As a result, I wore every hat you can imagine and had to make the best decisions possible with the limited business knowledge I had. I was in charge of designing the office, writing all the ad copy for the website, training the staff on a world I had never worked in, and setting up our EHR and practice management software. It was a lot to say the least.
If I can give you a bit of advice it is to take the time to explore every practice management solution, figure out their full potentials, and utilize whichever one you choose to their maximum potential from the start. All the other things are important (let's be real, everything you do for the next decade is going to be important), but this is the control center of your office and will set the tone going forward. I figured out the scheduler and not much else and I am paying the price as I switch/upgrade now 9 years later. Be better than me, ask questions from reps, colleagues, and thank me later.
