Closing Thought of the Week: To Make it Big, Take Big Risks - E16
I am currently reading a biography about Elon Musk and found out that after he sold his first business he made 22 million dollars. Think about that. What would you do with that payday? Regardless of what you said, I doubt the answer you thought of was re-investing it al (ALL) in 3 new start-ups (spaceX, Tesla, and solar city). That sounds like a great way to squander a fortune, except he didn’t. He actually became a billionaire.
The moral of this story is to make it big, you have to take big risks. We may not have 22 million to play with or ever become billionaires, but we can take risks in our office. Playing it safe is the easy way out. Investing in new technologies, switching your office protocol to include online scheduling or telehealth visits, or building a new office is our 22 million dollar reinvestment.
Do you have the intestinal fortitude to ante back up and keep playing hands? Or are you going to think you have made it, play it safe, and get passed by the new graduate who was not afraid to take the risks I listed above?
Choose wisely my friends, but know the profession is not going to sit idly by and wait for you to keep up.
