Closing Thought of the Week: The Hedonic Treadmill - E34

Today we are going to talk about the Hedonic Treadmill of happiness. Essentially, what this says is that regardless of your situation your happiness will invariably regress back to the mean. Said in another way, we can get a raise, buy a new car, or move into a new house and have this huge surge of joy. However; give it a week, month, or if you are lucky a year, but you are going to come down from the high and the money you make is just what it is, the car is merely your transportation, and the house is the place you live. If you are not careful you will just keep trying to get new “things” and have less and less happiness. I am not suggesting we do not strive for better, but do not expect those things to be the source of your happiness. Find a way to love what you have and not think something new will provide anymore fulfillment to your life.

Easier said than done, but we are Optometrists. We can do anything! Have a great weekend my friends.
