Closing Thought of the Week: Planting Seeds of Success - E29

Today let's talk about planting the seeds of success. Are you aware that hard work rarely goes unrewarded and the skill you have acquired years ago, can be applied to your day to day life today? You just have to look for the opportunities to apply them and see how skills translate from situation to situation.

For example, the summer before optometry school I worked for a roofing company and went door to door asking people if they wanted an estimate on replacing their roof. Realize I was essentially cold calling strangers in person and trying to get them to say yes to letting another stranger come over and sell them a roof. This is not for the faint of heart and you had to win over a person in about the first 10 seconds. I got pretty good at that and believe it or not, made a lot of money that summer.

Why do I tell you about this story? The skill of getting someone to like you in the first 10 seconds is what I do every time I walk into the exam room. I start with that and taking care of my patients eyes is so much easier afterwards.

What skills have you acquired over time that you can apply at the office Monday? Think hard and harvest the seed of success you planted years ago!
