Closing Thought of the Week: Be Thankful It's Not Easy - E31
As you know, I have been pursuing scleral lenses and adding that niche to my office for the past 1.5 years. Rubber has finally hit the road and I fit 5 patients and was overall incredibly successful. I had about a 2 week break and then had to fit a new patient, and guess what, it was a little bit of a struggle to remember everything I had learned.
Now understand, I knew everything, but it was not as second nature as my normal comprehensive exams and guess what? This was actually very encouraging to me! I love how the barrier to entry is difficult, it means more people will try and quit when it gets hard. I assume to do any specialty well, there will be this experience.
Stay focused, take detailed notes and study them on a weekly basis. You have to stay fresh, excited, and energized to grow something new. Also, be thankful it is not easy as nothing worthwhile ever is, and it makes it more likely for you to establish yourself as a specialist!
