Myopia Management Journey - E2

Myopia Management Journey - E2

Myopia Management Journey - E2

Before I get into my personal journey with myopia management, I wanted to put this thought out into the ethers of existence. Myopia management is a hot topic and there is a plethora of information and resources out there. I personally feel that it is a hodgepodge of bits and pieces that are helpful, but leave you more confused or lost than before. My plans for the Ultimate OD is to bridge that gap. I am going to develop a one stop shop for all things myopia management and give a step by step guide to anyone interested to start from scratch and build a niche of your own. This will be via podcasts, blog posts, webinars, website, and even zoom calls. That is the dream, bear with me as I work through the rollercoaster myself to get you there.

That being said we had an amazing week in developing our myopia management practice. Up to this point I have learned the protocols and have a generalized understanding of how I plan to treat these patients, developed a program with standard operating procedures, finished my handouts and brochures to give patients and prospective patients, made my in office forms, purchased a topographer, and created a presentation and contracts for my consultations. That has taken me about 9 months (take away 2 because the end of March, April, and May were lost days as my head was in another place).

This week I purchased an IOL master, did a dry run of a consultation with 2 actual patients, and ordered 2 pairs of ortho-k lenses. Now in this dry run, these are ortho-k patients vs actual myopia management patients, but you have to start somewhere and getting experience and smoothing out the rough edges was my goal. I am going to elaborate further on the presentations and actual takeaways next week. At that point I should have already done the dispensing appointment and started therapy. Stay tuned!
